The project
The brief was a family house and a separate studio for a ceramicist, on a sloping plot full of old trees we were not allowed to touch.
We split the program into two pavilions that follow the slope and leave the trees between them. Board-marked concrete carries the roofs; the walls are filled with stone recovered from the old terraces on the site.
The curved roofs channel rainwater into a pond at the entrance, which waters the garden through the summer. Ten years from now the buildings should feel as if they had always been there.
